As Chief Computational Scientist and Director of the High Performance Computing Innovation Center (HPCIC) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Dr. Streitz leads efforts to develop supercomputer applications that address forefront scientific problems by pushing the limits of leadership-class computing. Through the HPCIC, he develops and strengthens collaborations with academic and industrial partners. Dr. Streitz is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a two-time winner of the Gordon Bell Prize for significant achievement in supercomputing. Fred earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College.
Towards Predictive Biology with Extreme Scale Computing
Lawrence Livermore has a long history of fielding some of the world’s largest computers with each new generation enabling simulations that were previously impossible. I will discuss the development of a real-time, high-resolution electrophysiological model of a human heart, and growing efforts to extend such models towards true predictive biology.
