M.D., Clinical Team Leader lung and head and neck cancers, FDA

Gideon Blumenthal, M.D. is clinical team leader and scientific liaison for lung cancer and head and neck cancer in the Office of Hematology Oncology Products, U.S. Food and Administration.  Dr. Blumenthal sees patients as an attending at the thoracic malignancies clinic at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health.  Dr Blumenthal received his medical degree and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Maryland, and Hematology and Oncology fellowship training at the National Cancer Institute.  His interests include novel trial designs, biomarker development, and modernizing the clinical trial process and information gathering systems in oncology.

Drug and diagnostic developers and FDA are adapting to the era of precision medicine.  Among the changes are increased use of comprehensive multiplexed ‘omics tests, blurring of phases in clinical trials, novel combinatorial approaches, breakthrough therapy designation and increased patient collaboration.
