Ph.D., Director, Innovative Genomics Initiative
Jacob Corn is Scientific Director of the Innovative Genomics Initiative (IGI) and faculty member in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. Previously, he was principal investigator at Genentech in Early Discovery Biochemistry, leading multidisciplinary teams in the areas of neurobiology, infectious disease, and oncology. As director of IGI, Jacob is committed to pushing the boundaries of next-generation genome editing, particularly the ability to change existing sequences or insert new ones. By building new models for collaboration between academic and commercial organizations, Jacob actively promotes entrepreneurship in the biological sciences.
Gene Correction with CRISPR-Cas9
The development of CRISPR/Cas9 as a tool for precise genome editing and transcriptional regulation is revolutionizing biology and holds great promise for human health. We are still in the process of learning how these exciting new tools work, but progress towards the clinic is extremely rapid in a variety of disease areas.
