Sam Hawgood, MBBS, is the tenth chancellor of UC San Francisco, a $5 billion health sciences enterprise that includes top-ranking schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy, a graduate division, and a world-class clinical enterprise. Additionally, he holds the Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Distinguished Professor appointment. Dr. Hawgood previously served as dean of the UCSF School of Medicine and vice chancellor for medical affairs. Dr. Hawgood arrived at UCSF in 1982 as a research fellow. He launched his own laboratory in 1984, earning an international reputation in neonatology research. Throughout his career, Dr. Hawgood has maintained an active presence in clinical medicine and is president of the UCSF Medical Group.
