Dr. Triche is the founder of the Center for Personalized Medicine and former Chair of the Pathology Department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He is also a serial biotech entrepreneur, having co-founded companies like GenomeDx and NanoValent. He translates basic research discoveries in his laboratory into clinical diagnostics and therapeutics. His research interests include the ‘dark matter’ of the genome, as well as targeted nanoparticle delivery platforms for ‘smart’ cancer therapy.
Diagnostic Potential of Non-coding RNA in Cancer
Non-coding RNA dominates transcription of the human genome and is now recognized to regulate many aspects of the functional genome. This is reflected in its highly specific expression in diverse settings, including development and cancer. Consequently, patterns of ncRNA expression can be used for very precise diagnosis, estimates of prognosis, and even as therapeutic targets. Examples of each in pediatric cancer will be presented, but are applicable to adult cancer and other diseases as well.
